Ingrida – The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

received_10154335509396322The Handmaid’s Tale is one of those books that changes an adolescent girl’s life forever, giving her a sense of female empowerment, resilience and fervour. Unfortunately, having lived in a post-Soviet country as an adolescent, this book wasn’t available to me at the time when it would’ve been most impactful. Fast forward a bit more than a decade and The Handmaid’s Tale finally falls into my hands, by way of the West End book club held in Strumpets cafe! Better late than never, right?! Now I can truly indulge in Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, ignite my feminist fire and fan it self-righteously unto my imagined Stalinesque patriarchy! Well, until I start reading next month’s West End book club’s choice…
